I learned to edit on student newspapers and under the mentorship of John R. Trimble at the University of Texas. While getting a second and a third master's degree in literature at Columbia University in New York City, I went to work first in SoHo on a supplement to Fortune magazine and then in Midtown on a current affairs–based reference.
Moving west with my family in 2005, I covered interdisciplinary global and area studies for UCLA and, from 2011 to 2020, revised nearly every kind of blurb, bio, brochure, blog and report put out by California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. My principal role there was executive editor of the alumni magazine.
In the last 25-plus years, I've collaborated with hundreds of writers from diverse backgrounds. Since the pandemic, I've been working from home in Vinaròs, Spain. I write freelance articles and advise international applicants to U.S. colleges on their essays, without compromising ethics.
